Behavior Academy 2.0 — Student Guide

A restorative digital environment for student reflection and emotional growth during in-school detention.

What is School in School?

School in School (Behavior Academy 2.0) is a web-based program that turns in-school detention (ISD) time into a calm, productive space for reflection and learning. Instead of just sitting quietly, students complete guided reflection forms, work through social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons, take short comprehension quizzes, and — for longer stays — tackle project-based learning (PBL) projects that keep them on pace with their class.

Every student is paired with Trail, a friendly AI turtle partner who can answer questions, explain lessons, and help students think through their choices. Student responses are private and are only shared with the student's ISD administrator.

What you need to get started

  • Any device with internet access — Chromebook, tablet, or phone.
  • Your school code (a 3–6 letter code from your teacher).
  • Your 5-digit student ID number (on your ID badge or from your teacher).

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 1

Open the School in School website

On any device — Chromebook, tablet, or phone — open the Behavior Academy 2.0 app. Your teacher or ISD coordinator will give you the web address.

  2. 2

    Enter your school code

Type your school's 3–6 letter code (for example, LIN, JEF, or WAS) into the "School Code" box. Ask your teacher if you don't know it. The code is saved on your device so you only enter it once.

  3. 3

    Enter your 5-digit student ID

Type your 5-digit student ID number into the "Student ID" box. A barcode scanner also works — scan your ID badge and the app looks you up automatically.

  4. 4

    Tap "View My Dashboard"

Press the orange button. If your school code or ID is not found, check with your teacher and try again.

  5. 5

    Start your reflection

On your dashboard, tap "Start Reflection." Answer every question honestly — why you're in ISD, what you could have done differently, and who you may need to apologize to. Your answers are private and only shared with your ISD administrator.

  6. 6

    Complete your SEL lesson

After your reflection, you'll see a short Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lesson. Read it carefully and answer the reflection question. Then take the quick comprehension quiz at the end.

  7. 7

    Check for assigned lessons

Your teacher may assign extra SEL or academic lessons. Look in the Lessons tab and the Academic tab for anything marked "Start." Finish each one before the end of the day.

  8. 8

Work on a PBL project (if assigned)

If you're in ISD for more than one full day, you may get a Project-Based Learning (PBL) project. Find it in the PBL tab and work through each worksheet one at a time.

  9. 9

Chat with Trail the Turtle anytime

Tap the green turtle button on any page to chat with Trail, your AI project partner. Trail can answer questions, explain a lesson, or help you think through a reflection.

  10. 10

    Stay on task

Use your time in ISD to reflect, learn, and grow. Your progress is saved automatically. When you come back another day, just enter your school code and ID to pick up where you left off.

Learning Plus

Learning Plus is an optional academic track that keeps students on pace with their regular class while they're in ISD. It uses a curriculum map with weekly topic lessons tied to Indiana academic standards, so a student who is absent can be assigned the correct weekly topic and stay caught up.

  • Each Learning Plus lesson matches a specific week of the class curriculum and includes a date range.
  • Lessons include a short reading and a 10-question comprehension quiz.
  • If you score below 80% on a Learning Plus quiz, the program automatically gives you a simpler version of the same lesson so you can master it before moving on.
  • Find your Learning Plus lessons in the Academic tab on your dashboard.

Tips for success

  • Answer reflection questions honestly — that's how the program helps you grow.
  • Take your time reading each SEL lesson before starting the quiz.
  • If a lesson feels too hard, ask Trail the Turtle to explain it another way.
  • Finish every assigned lesson before the end of the day so your teacher can see your progress.
  • If you need help, raise your hand and ask your ISD coordinator.
